Yi-Xian Li is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of California. She earned her doctoral and master's degrees (Psy.D., M.A.) in Clinical Psychology from The Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA and a bachelor's degree in East Asian Studies from Brandeis University. Prior to her current career in psychology, Dr. Li worked in media strategy and advertising in Beijing and Shanghai, China.
She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the UCSF Faculty & Staff Assistance Program where she worked with physicians, faculty, nurses, administrators, and other UCSF staff members in therapy, as well as provided multiple psycho-educational presentations to departments in need. Yi-Xian completed her predoctoral internship at the Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center where she worked with adult patients at the main inpatient hospital and on the Crisis Response Team, along with working with adults in therapy and conducting ADHD assessments. Dr. Li has clinical experience working with individuals and families in community mental health, hospital settings, and schools. She has received specialized training in evidence-based modalities, trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and suicide prevention.
Dr. Li has a keen interest in continuing to work clinically with culturally diverse communities, and has enjoyed specializing in work with Chinese populations. Dr. Li believes in a culturally-sensitive and integrative approach to therapy and consultation. Her therapeutic approach integrates psychodynamic conceptualization with evidence-based interventions including those from dialectical behavior therapy, mindful self-compassion, and solution-focused therapy. She highly values interdisciplinary consultation and collaboration as essential elements of growth. Outside of work, she enjoys eating, staying active, and spending time with family, friends, and animals.
